Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive recovered 1.78 lakh Yaba tablets worth around Tk 5.34 crore from a truck in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital, on Saturday night.
They also seized the truck and arrested a man in this connection.
The arrested man was identified as Isa Khan, 32, a resident of Chapainawabganj district. He is a member of an organised drug smuggling syndicate, said a RAB official.
RAB-4 Operation Officer ASP Sumon Ahmed Shaon said that a team of the elite force conducted a drive following secret information and seized the Rajshahi-bound truck.
Later, they recovered 178,200 pieces of Yaba tablets, packed in 981 mini bags, from inside a plastic sack and arrested the man.
During the primary interrogation, Isha said that a drug trader of Cox’s Bazar gave the Yaba tablets to him to hand over those to a person at Shaheb Bazar in Rajshahi city, the RAB official said.
A case has been filed in this connection, he added.
Another drive police seized at least 20,000 Yaba tablets worth about Tk 60 lakh, from a private car in the city’s Jatrabari area, said Abni Sankar Kar, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jatrabari Police Station.
Police also arrested a man in this connection and seized the private car, the OC said.
The identity of the arrested man could not be known immediately, the police official said.
The arrested man is being interrogated in this connection, he said.
