UNB, Dhaka :
Plainclothes police arrested two suspected killers of Swechchhasebak League leader Mahbubur Rahman Rana from Madaripur district on Sunday night.
Members of Detective Branch of police also recovered a foreign revolver along with seven bullets from their possession. The arrested were identified as Kamran, 20, and, Saddam, 20.
Rana, also former senior vice-president of Ramna thana unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), was hacked to death in the city’s Moghbazar area on January 23. Later, a case was filed with Ramna police station the following day. The DB police started investigation into the killing alongside Ramna thana police.
Acting on a tip-off, a DB special team, led by its Assistant Commissioner (DB-Ramna Zone) Hasan Arafat, conducted a drive in Shibchar upazila
headquarters of Madaripur at around 11pm on Sunday and arrested the two suspected killers.
Following information gleaned from Kamran, the detectives recovered the pistol along with the bullets from his Moghbazar residence on Monday.
During preliminary interrogation, Kamran confessed that he along with his accomplices killed Rana as ordered by top terror Rony. Rony had rivalry with Rana over controlling dish trade in Moghbazar.
