Two people were killed in separate incidents in different areas under Sitakundu upazila of the district on Tuesday.
The victims were identified as Ship breaking worker Selim Bari, 46, son of Hashem Bari, hailling from Pirojpur district and pedestrian Mohammad Ramij Uddin, 61, son of late Omar Ali and hailed from Cox’s Bazar district.
Shipyard worker Selim was killed when some iron plates fell on him at a ship-breaking yard in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong Tuesday. Police sources said a huge steel plate fell on Selim when he along with other workers was dismantling ships at a shipyard in Bhatiary area around 10 am today. Selim was rushed to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) in a critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries around 12:30 pm today.
In another incident, a Chittagong-bound microbus from Dhaka lost control on the highway and crushed pedestrian Ramij Uddin in Chutokumira area on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway under Sitakunda upazila at 7 am today.
Locals brought the victim to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where the doctors declared Ramij dead, police said.
