A robber and a schoolboy were killed in Jessore and Narsingdi districts respectively on Tuesday in different incidents. They were identified as Lalu Miah and Parvez Miah respectively.
At Benapole in Jessore, an alleged robber was killed and three others were injured in a mob beating at Shimuliya village of Jhikargachha upazila of Jessore district early Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Lalu Miah, 42, hailing from Meherpur district.
Khabir Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge of Jhikargachha police station, said that a gang of robbers numbering 10 to 12 persons entered a church of the village sometimes after midnight and looted valuables worth Tk1.70 lakh.
Hearing din and bustle of the Church residents, local people rushed in and caught four of the robbers. They gave the bandits a good thrashing, which left Lalu dead on the spot and three others namely Amirul Islam and Monirul Islam, hailing from Faridpur, and Sujan from Kamarkandi were injured.
On receipt of information, police recovered the body. The three injured robbers were admitted to Jessore Medical College Hospital.
In Narsingdi, a schoolboy was beaten to death allegedly by two of his classmates at Khalpar of the district town on Tuesday afternoon over past enmity.
The deceased has been identified as Parvez Miah, 13, son of Sattar Miah from Bilasdi in the district town. He was a student of Class VII of Narsingdi Ideal High School.
Officer-in-charge of Narsingdi Police Station Golam Mostafa said that Parvez and his friend Nurul Amin, 13, both inhabitants of Bilasdi, went out of their school during the break hour to have snacks.
At that time, two of their classmates named Ariful Islam and Ruman Miah took Parvez and Nurul to Khalpar and hit the duo with a cricket bat mercilessly over past enmity, leaving them seriously injured.
On getting information, some teachers of the school rushed in and took them to Narsingdi General Hospital where doctors referred them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
But Parvez succumbed to his injuries on the way to the DMCH around 3pm, the OC added.
Victim’s father Sattar Miah filed a case with Narsingdi Police Station in connection with the incident.
