Two persons, including a former union parishad chairman, were killed in separate incidents in Mirsarai and Patiya upazilas of the district on Friday.
The victims were Enayet Ullah, 50, former chairman of Jorarganj union parishad under Mirsarai upazila and farmer Manjur Ali, 45, hailed from Kelishahar union under Patiya upazila of the district.
Highway police sources said Enayet was critically injured after a speedy truck hit him in Chinki Astana area on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway while he was crossing the road around 10.30am.
He died on his way to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, police said adding that the highway police seized the truck but its driver and helper managed to flee.
Meanwhile, farmer Manjur was killed after being struck by lightning while he was returning home from his vegetable filed in Killapara area under Kelishahar union of Patiya upazila this morning.
