Two children drowned in a river at Kashil Paschimpara village in Basail upazila here on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Rumi, 7, daughter of Bhulu Jamadar and Shonali, 6, daughter of Manir Khan of the village.
Sources said Rumi and Sonali went to the Jhenai River for playing in the afternoon and both slipped into the river. Local people rescued them and took them to the upazila health complex where doctors declared them dead around 8 pm.
