Police on Tuesday arrested a Khulna-based journalist in a case under Digital Security Act filed by an Assistant Returning Officer for publishing ‘untrue’ information regarding the 11th general election on Sunday.
The arrestee is Hedayet Hossain Mollah, Khulna Correspondent of Dhaka Tribune and Bangla Tribune and City Editor of Khulna-based Dainik Prabaha.
Khulna’s Batiyaghata Polling Officer Debashish Chowdhury filed the case under Digital Security Act against Hedayet and Rashedul Islam, Khulna Correspondent of Daily Manabzamin, said Batiyaghata Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahbubur Rahman.
Another accused Rashedul Islam was still absconding till the report was under filing on Tuesday night, the OC said.
According to case report, the accused journalists reported that 22,419 more votes were cast than the actual number of total voters in the polls.
