Police on Thursday arrested two members of a fraud gang who were cheating people in the name of Jiner Badsha from Dakkhin Koyrapara village in Chougaccha upazila of Jessore District.
The arrestees are Tahidul Islam, 35, son of Amir Hossain and Manirul Islam, 32, son of Azam Ali of Mirpur upazila in Kushtia district.
Quoting local people, police said Tahidul and Manirul had long been involved in cheating people.
On Thursday, they went to the house of Laboni, wife of Mostak Hossain at Koyrapara village and took way Tk 2,500 and a mobile phone set after making her unconscious by giving toxic substance.
Sensing danger, Sabina, a neighbour of Laboni, raised a hue and cry for help. At one stage, local people caught them and gave them a good thrashing.
Later, they were handed over to police. A case was filed.
