The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Monday placed two suspected members of militant outfit Islamic State (IS) on a three-day remand.
Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman of the CMM Court passed the order after hearing. Earlier, on the day the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested suspected members of Middle East-based IS in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) from the city on Sunday night. The suspected militants were Aminul Islam Beg, 50, as IS Coordinator and his associate Sakib Bin Kamal, 32, who is also a teacher of an English medium school in the city.
Earlier, the DB produced them to the court with a ten-day remand prayer for each of the accused under the Anti-Terrorist Act.
Acting on tip off, a team of DB police raided the house of Aminul in Uttara Sector-14 and arrested him on Sunday evening, said Joint Commissioner of DB Monirul Islam. The law enforcers reportedly conducted another drive in the house of Sakib in Lalmatia area and arrested him on Sunday night. This was disclosed at a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre in the city on Monday morning.
Briefing reporters, DB Joint-Commissioner Monirul Islam said that Aminul Islam was working in Bangladesh as a representative of ISIS. Earlier, he worked here as regional coordinator of banned Islamist outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
During primarily interrogation, Aminul Islam reportedly revealed that he already collected 20 people, including Sakib, from Bangladesh to join ISIS in Syria and Iraq, Monirul Islam said.
