Two ships of Indian Coatguard named ICGS Sujay and ICGS Sarojini Naidu arrived at Mongla Port on Monday to interact with Bangladesh Coastguard and participate in a joint training for next three days.
“Over next three days, personnel from both Coastguards will interact closely and exchange best practices being followed by each other, as well as undertake joint training in areas of mutual interest like pollution response,” a press release issued by Indian High Commission said here. Terming the visit as part of ongoing bilateral exchanges between Bangladesh and Indian Coastguard, the release said this interaction will facilitate greater synergy between the two forces thereby enhancing safety in sea for mariners from both the countries.
ICGS Sujay is a 105m offshore patrol vessel commissioned into the Indian Coastguard on December 27, 2017 and is primarily designed for round the clock, all-weather surveillance of maritime zones of India and is capable of integrated helicopter operations.
ICGS Sarojini Naidu is 50m long fast patrol craft commissioned on November 11, 2002 and designed for patrolling, search and rescue, anti smuggling, anti terrorist operations, protection of fishermen and endangered marine species.
The activities are in accordance with the MoU signed between the two forces in 2015, said the press release.
