Detective Branch (DB) of Police in separate drives arrested at least six persons, including two members of the banned organisation Hizb-ut Tahrir, from the capital’s Uttara and Mugda areas on Sunday night.
Of them, two were identified as Al Tamas Ahmed Babu and Syed Jane Alam Rubel, activists of Hizb-ut-Tahrir.
The identity of other arrested men could not be known instantly, said Sheikh Nazmul Alam, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The police official said, a team of DB police conducted a drive at Uttara and arrested the alleged Hizb-ut Tahrir members and recovered huge number of jihadi books and magazines.
He said, however, another Hizb-ut Tahrir member
fled the scene during the drive. He will be arrested.
In another drive on sunday afternoon, the law enforcers picked four alleged criminals, who used to identify themselves as relatives of Inspector General of Police (IGP). They used to earn money by providing fake appointment letters the police official said.
Two cases were filed in these connection, he said.
