Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Detective Branch (DB), seized fake notes Tk 22.25 lakh and arrested two on charge of producing fake currencies in the capital’s Haritrjheel area.
Police also seized machine and other equipment of making counterfeit notes in a drive on Tuesday night.
The arrested two men are Moloy Mandal and Jhonny De Costa.
DB’s Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Wari Division Abdul Ahad confirmed it on Wednesday.
He said that a team of police conducted a drive in West Olon area of Rampura under the Hatirjheel thana and busted the fake-note factory on Tuesday afternoon. That time they arrested two but the other fled the scene.
They also seized the materials, equipment, and Tk 22.25 lakh in fake notes. The seized materials could have been used to produce several crores in counterfeit bank notes, said the official.
DB’s Wari Division Assistant Commissioner Khalilur Rahman said that the arrested two are the kingpins of the racket and they produce forged notes and distribute those in markets with assistance of other members.
Jhonny was once arrested under the same charge and got released on bail and resumed fake note productions, said the AC.
They have strong network through which they sell such fake currencies in markets and shopping centers,’ the police officer said.
Police sealed off the apartment where they were producing the fake notes.
