Customs officials arrested two people along with a consignment of gold weighing 1.4 kg at Shahjalal Airport in the city on Thursday.
Sources at the airport said a customs preventive team challenged the duo-Anwar Hossain, a resident of Mymensingh, and Tapan Chandra Pal of Laxmipur-following their suspicious movement
while crossing the green channel in the afternoon.
Later, the customs officials recovered 1.4 kg of broken gold bars, hidden in their bags, worth around Tk 70 lakh, said assistant commissioner of customs preventative team Saidul Islam.
Anwar and Tapan arrived here from Singapore by a Biman Bangladesh flight that landed at the airport around 6:15 pm.
