A team of Border Guard Bangladesh arrested two suspected gold smugglers and recovered 15 gold bars, weighing 1.74 kilograms, worth Tk 63,55,000 from Gazipur village in Benapole Port PS on Saturday morning, according to a press release issued by the 49 Border Guard Battalion.
The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammad Hossain from Narayanpur village under Benapole Port PS and Shamim Hossain from Kittipur village under Jhikargachha upazila of the district.
Abul Mansur Ahmad, Assistant Director, Border Guard Bangladesh, raided based on an information and recovered the gold bars after arresting the two suspected smugglers from Gazipur at around 7:30am on Saturday. The BGB men also recovered a motorbike and four mobile phone sets from under their possessions, the press release added. The gold bars were deposited in the Jessore treasury and the accused handed over to the police.
