Police arrested two suspects in the killing of Naniarchar Upazila chairman Shaktiman Chakma from Burubazar area of Ashulia on Saturday afternoon.
The detainees were identified as UPDF members Ripon Chakma, 36, and Kantomoy Tripura, 33.

Police arrested two suspects in the killing of Naniarchar Upazila chairman Shaktiman Chakma from Burubazar area of Ashulia on Saturday afternoon.
The detainees were identified as UPDF members Ripon Chakma, 36, and Kantomoy Tripura, 33.
Being informed by Naniarchar police, a team from Ashulia Police Station
raided a house in the area around 5 pm and arrested the duo, said Abdul Awal, officer-in-charge of the police station.
The law enforcers also recovered leaflets from their possession.
On May 3, Shaktiman Chakma, also a leader of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (MN Larma faction), was shot to death by unidentified miscreants in front of the upazila parishad complex.
Meanwhile, five female members of Hill Women’s Federation claimed that the arrestees are not involved with the murder.
“They have arrested over wrong information. They came to Dhaka for distributing leaflets marking 22nd anniversary of abduction of Kalpana Chakma,” they said.
