Police arrested two people, including a Dharanji UP Member, on Tuesday night on charges of raping a woman at Panchbibi in Joypurhat. Shahabul Islam, 42, son of Sharif Uddin of Mirzapur village and his accomplice Dudu Mia, 32, son of Jabaidur Rahman of Uttar Baniapara village in Joypurhat Sadar upazila were arrested. A rape case has been registered with Panchbibi police station in this incident.
According to the case, Tahmina Begum, 35, daughter of late Washed Ali of Aranagar Uttarpara village in Dhamuirhat upazila of Naogaon district.
He had a love affair with Zahid Hossain, 35, of Nandail village in Panchbibi upazila while working at Bird’s Garments in Savar, Dhaka for about six years. Promising to marry Tahmina Begum, Zahid seized the Bikash account and cash of Rs 1.5 lakh and cut off communication with her.
Later, the girl contacted the UP Member Shahabul Islam. Sahabul asked the girl to come to Panchbibi with the promise of recovering money from Zahid and marrying her. When he arrived at the Panchbibi bus stand at 9 pm on Monday, January 25, the UP member kept the girl at his sister’s house at Dudu Mia’s father-in-law’s house in Mirzapur village of the upazila. Shahabul and Dudu Mia threatened the girl at night and raped her in turns all night.
