The members of Detective Branch (DB) of Police in a drive arrested Foysal Ahmed and Jahirul Islam Jony from the city’s Jatrabari area on Monday morning in connection with the murder of Shumon Shikdar, Editor of an online news portal Islamic News Online.
Shumon was found dead in a House on the Shaheed Faruk Road of
Jatrabari on March 9, Abdul Baten, Joint-Commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told the reporters in a press briefing of the DMP media center on Monday morning.
The accused confessed to their crime in primary questioning, the detective official said.
They were shown arrested in a murder case which was filed with Jatrabari Police Station following the recovery of the body, he said.
The deceased, Shumon Shikdar, reportedly took Tk four to five lakh from Faisal Ahmed in pledging to offer him a job, the Joint-Commissioner said.
But, Faisal killed Shumon Shikdar instead of managing a job nor he returned the money.
Investigation also reveals that Sumon used to collect money from various institutions and CNG operated auto-rickshaws by threatening them.
