A Chittagong court on Wednesday sentenced two persons to life-term imprisonment for killing a man over two decades ago.
The court of Chittagong Divisional Public Safety Tribunal (special judge) Hosney Ara Begum pronounced the verdict and fined the two convicts-Muslem-uddin and Ershad – Taka 10,000, in default, to suffer three months more in jail.The prosecution story is in brief that the convicts killed him at Halishahr in the city on December 10, 1996 over previous enmity.
Father of the victim Abul Khayer filed a case with Double-mooring police station on the day. Later, the court pressed charges on June 1, 2004.
Meanwhile the cour t on Wednesday sentenced a man to 40 years of imprisonment in a case over raping a 9 years old girl in Lohagora upazila in the district in 2003. The convict is Jasim Uddin, son of Abul Kasem of Sikdarpara in Lohagora upazila. Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 judge Motahar Ali handed down the verdict. According to the prosecution, victim’s family was living as tenant at Jasim’s house in Sikdarpara.
On May 19 in 2003, Jasim raped the child while she was going to a local madr-asha. Victim’s father later filed a case with Lohagora Police Station, court sources said.
