A court here on Monday sentenced a person to life imprisonment for possessing heroin.
The convict was identified as Ibrahim Ali, 30, son of Ashraf Ali of Madarpur village under Godagari upazila of the district.
Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Monsur Alam found Ibrahim Ali guilty of the charges and pronounced the verdict with the convict in the dock.
The court also fined him Taka 10,000, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that a police team arrested Ibrahim Ali with 100 grams of heroin from his locality on May 5 last year.
Later, a case was recorded with the concerned police station in this connection.
After completion of investigation, police pressed charges accusing Ibrahim Ali.
Special Public Prosecutor Mozaffar Hossain conducted the case on behalf of the state while Advocate Shalah Uddin Bishwas defended the accused.
BSS from Chapainawabganj adds: A court here Monday sentenced a woman drug peddler to life term imprisonment for keeping drugs.
The court also fined the convict Gele Banu alias Gele, 42, wife of M Tariqul Islam of Ramkistapur in Chapainawabganj municipality, Taka 11,000, in default to suffer more four months in jail. Additional District and Session Judge M Ziaur Rahman pronounced the verdict in presence of the convict.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that police arrested Gele Banu with 30 grams heroin and 50 pieces yaba tablets from her house on August 28, 2015.
Sub-inspector Khairul Islam of Sadar Thana filed a case on the same day against Gele Banu under Narcotics Control Act.
After the investigation, inspector Sarwar Hossain submitted charge-sheet to the court on October 10 of the same year.
After examining the record and witnesses the court handed down the punishment.
