A Chapainawabganj court today awarded two persons life term imprisonment and fined them of Tk. 1,50,000 each four years more in default for kidnapping and raping an adibasi woman.
Additional district and session judge and also the judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 Md. Ziaur Rahman handed down the punishment in two verdicts at noon in presence of the convicts. The convicted persons are Ariful Islam, 30, son of Delshad of Atahar village and Ziarul, 32, son of Mostofa of Atahar Andhanidanga village under Chapainawabganj sadar upazila.
According to the prosecution story, the convited persons kidnapped an adibasi house wife of Atahar Jugidaing village from her house on sharp weapons’ point on November 29, 2014 at around 11-30 pm. After taking her to a mango orchard they raped her.
Next day the victim herself filed a rape case with Chapainawabganj sadar model thana. Investing officer SI Jahangir Alam submitted charge sheet against them with the court on March 22, 2015. The court heard 10 witnesses and as the charges brought against the convicted persons were proved, the court awarded life term imrisonment to them and fined them of Tk. 1,00,000 each three years more in default for rape. The court also gave 14 years rigorous imprisonment and fined each of them of Tk. 50,000 and one year more in default for kidnapping the adibasi woman.
