Extramarital affairs: 2 get death , one to life-term for killing husband in Barisal

A Barisal court on Sunday afternoon sentenced two including wife to death and another one to life-term imprisonment for killing husband over extramarital love affairs of wife.
The death sentenced two accused were Mrs. Mamotaj Begum and her lover Kalam Hawladar and life-term sentenced accused was Rajib Rari, nephew of Kalam, of Tum Char village under Bandar Thana of Barisal Sadr upazila. The court also fined each of them Tk. 1 lakh.
Rakibul Islam, second additional district and session judge of Barisal, handed down this verdict in presence of the accused under section 302 of penal code after examining 14 witnesses and other evidences and documents.
District Public Prosecutor Adv Gias Uddin Kabul said victim Swarup Ali Mridha, 45, of Tum Char area under Barisal Sadar upazila was a fisherman. His wife Mamotaj, 30, engaged in extramarital love affairs with local rental motorbike driver Kalam Hawladar. After knowing the facts Swarup Ali rebuked both of them.
At one stage Mamotaj, Kalam and their associate Rajib Rari, nephew of Kalam Hawladar, planned to kill Swarup Ali. According to that plan they strangled Swarup Ali by tying rope with neck to death when he was sleeping in his room on March 12, 2015 night. The dead body later dug under mud of local cannel.
Relatives, local people and police recovered the body on next day after searching missing Swarup Ali.
Ashraf Ali Mridha, brother of victim, filed a murder case with Barisal Bandar Thana in this regard without mentioning any name of accused.
However in postmortem report it was revealed that Swarup was strangled to death and then police arrested the Mamotaj, her lover Kalam and their associate Rajib as suspected accused.
Then the arrestees gave confessional statement before the magistrate under section 164.
After investigating the facts and evidences, Sub Inspector Humayun Kabir submitted charge sheet against the three accused on May 26, 2016.
