Two people have died and three others fell sick after allegedly taking liquor at Khitapchar village in Boalkhali upazila.
The deceased were identified as Abul Bashar, 55, son of Karim Sawdagar of Khitapchar village, and his friend Habibur Rahman, 55, son of Farrukh Ahmed of Horarbagh area of the upazila.
Locals said Bashar was taken to Boalkhali Upazila Health Complex after he fell sick on Monday morning and later shifted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) as his condition deteriorated. He died at the hospital around 10am on the day.
On the same day, Habibur was also taken to the CMCH after he fell sick, where doctors declared him dead around 4pm.
Besides, three people-Nasir, 35, Iqbal, 33, and Jahangir, 37, — were undergoing treatment at the CMCH due to the same reason.
Morshed, nephew of slain Habibur Rahman, told reporters that his uncle confessed to the doctors before his death that a group of 10-12 people, including Bashar and him, took excessive liquor on Sunday night.
Contacted, officer-in-charge of Boalkhali Police Station M Salah Uddin Chowdhury said no one informed the police station in this connection.
