UNB, Bagerhat :
Two forest robbers were killed in a gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Mrigomari of the East Sundarbans under Mongla upazila on Wednesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Zakir and Raju. They belonged to notorious robber gang ‘Awal Bahini’.
A team of Rab-8, stationed in Barisal, was patrolling the world’s largest mangrove forest in the morning when a group of fishermen informed them that a robber gang was fleeing through Mrigomari after committing robbery, said commanding officer of Rab-8 Lt Col Faridul Alam.
Following the information, the elite force members conducted a drive in the area around 8:30am.
Sensing danger, the bandits opened fire on the crime busters that prompted them to retaliate, triggering a gun battle, said the Rab official.
