Two female workers were killed while extracting stones from a quarry at Chalti river bank in Sadar upazila on Tuesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Alaykha Begum, 30, wife of Tajul Mia of Guchhogram village in Jahangir union and Rahima Begum, 35, wife of Chan Mia of Feni Bail village of the same union here.
Locals said Rahima and Alekha went to extract stone in the quarry. During extracting stone around 11:30am suddenly a portion of sand collapsed on them, leaving them died on the spot.
On information, police recovered the bodies from the spot and sent it to the Sadar hospital for autopsy, said Habibullah, Additional Superintendent of Police in Sunamganj.
