Two alleged extortionists sustained bullet wound during a ‘shootout’ with police in the capital’s Badda area on Friday evening.
Police arrested seven extortionists including the two in DIT project area around 5:30pm.
Bachchu, 22, and Robin, 22, with bullet wounds in their right legs, are undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital under police custody.
Talking to The New Nation Abdul Jalil, Officer-in-Charge of Badda Police Station said a group of 10 criminals went to a residence on Road-10 of the area to collect extortion.
Hearing the hue and cry, locals informed police, he said.
A patrol police team rushed there immediately. Sensing police presence, the criminals opened fire at the
cops who retaliated with spraying bullets that left two of criminals injured, the OC said. The lawmen later picked up seven of them from the spot while three others managed to flee. Two policemen also sustained minor injuries during the ‘shootout’, he claimed.
Police recovered a pistol from their possession.
