2 ex-Karnaphuli Gas Co MDs among 5 sued

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against two former Managing Directors of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited and three other officials over recruitment anomalies.
The accused are the former Managing Directors Sanwar Hossain and Jamil Ahmed, incumbent deputy managing directors Amir Hamza and Abdullah Al Mamun, and former director general Chowdhury Ahsan Habib.
The Anti-Corruption watchdog filed the case for the recruitment of 57 employees.
ACC Deputy Director Hritwik Saha filed the case at Panchlaish Police Station. The first information report of the case says that the accused personally gathered applications from the 57 job-seekers, defying the condition of the recruitment circular. It also adds that the five accused in collusion of one another violated the recruitment rules aiming at getting bribes.
Earlier, the ACC has dropped graft charges against former Petrobangla Chairman Professor Hossain Monsur.
ACC sources said the Commission has cleared Hossain Monsur of corruption and irregularity charges over the recruitment in the Karnaphuli
Gas Field Company Limited.
After an ACC probe, the Commission recommended filing a case against six persons, including Hossain Monsur. However, his name was finally dropped from the case.
Contacted, ACC Commissioner (Investigation) M Sahabuddin confirmed The New Nation that the Commission filed a case against five persons. Hossain Monsur is not included in the case, he added.
