Two suspected drug peddlers, including a Rohingya man, were killed in a reported gunfight with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Teknaf upazila on early Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Mohammad Kamal, 22, son of Islam of Balukhali camp, and Habibur Rahman, 23, son of Abul Shama of Nayapara in Teknaf upazila.
BGB said the gunfight took place along the bordering Najirpara area.
A BGB-2 team raided the area around 2am after
being tipped off that a yaba consignment was being brought into the country through the border point, said Major Mohammad Rubayet Kabir, Additional Director (Operation) of BGB-2.
The BGB team came under fire as soon as it reached the spot. Kamal and Habibur were killed in the ensuing gunfight, the BGB said.
Their bodies were kept at the sadar hospital morgue.
The BGB members also recovered 1,00,000 contraband yaba pills and a firearm from the spot after the skirmish.
