Two drug addicts were stabbed to death by one of their fellows following an altercation over distribution of hemp in front of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in the city’s Shahbagh area early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Motaleb and Harun Habib, police official said.
Abu Bakar Siddique, Officer-in-Charge of Shahbagh Police Station, said, “One Sohel stabbed Motaleb indiscriminately on the footbridge at Shabagh intersection around 12:15am. Sohel also attacked Habib with a sharp weapon when he tried to save Motaleb, the police official said.
The on – duty doctors declared Motaleb dead after he was rushed to Birdem Hospital, while Habib succumbed to his injuries around 2:00am at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, the OC said.
The bodies were kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy, said Sub-Inspector Bacchu Miah, in-charge of the hospital police camp.
