The abduction of at least two dozens of people have taken place across the country during the last one week of whom eight have been found dead including seven in Narayanganj, 11 rescued alive while five still remain traceless.M. Hakim (55), a businessman of city’s Bangshal area was rescued from the city’s Jurain area on Saturday morning following payment of some money as ransom . He was kidnapped from Makimbazar area on Thursday afternoon. Later, the kidnappers demanded some money, which was paid through Bikash, according to Bangshal police. Five persons including two women have been arrested in connection with the incident, the police told the media.Meanwhile, the bullet-riddled body of a fisherman was found yesterday at Bhodra in the Sundarbans, three days after his abduction from Bagerhat’s Mongla. The victim was identified as Luis Ijaradar alias Nishi who had been abducted by a local gang of robbers.In Noakhali’s Begumganj, 42-year-old businessman Abul Bashar was abducted yesterday from the house of Faiz contractor of Alaiyapur Union Parishad. The kidnappers reportedly demanded a Tk five lakh ransom. Ashraful Islam Dipu, a tenth grade school student was rescued by the Armed Police Battalion from Tangail on May 1, one day after his abduction from Meerergaon, Gazipur. Mobarak Hossain Raqib, a ninth grade student was dropped by the kidnappers near his house at Sreepur upazila, Gazipur , a week after his abduction. Raqib’s younger brother was also kidnapped and killed earlier last month, reports said. On April 29, gold trader Kedari Chandra Mondol and his brother Jhilmohan Mondol were freed by the kidnappers at Baroipara in Gazipur, only 16 hours after they had been kidnapped by some people introducing themselves as policemen.Meanwhile, a dozen of suspected abductors were detained in Naogaon by the local people yesterday when they were preparing to kidnap textile trader Bazlur Rashid from Maiyanam Bazar in Manda upazila.On April 30, garment worker Mobarak Hossain was rescued by Detective Branch personnel in Tangail, three days after his abduction from Gazipur. Five suspected kidnappers were arrested in this connection. Businessman Abdul Jabbar, who was abducted on 29 April from Tangail’s Mirzapur, was rescued from the city’s Kakrail yesterday.Yusuf Miah, a timber trader of Feni was abducted on April 30 from the Court Area of the town, members of family of the victim said on May 1. Yusuf’s son told the media that his father was abducted when he had gone to Feni in connection a land dispute case. He remains missing since then, his son said. In Jamalpur, a Power Development Board employee named Ali al-Razi alias Ridoy was rescued from Singhajani High School in the town yesterday several hours after his abduction by unidentified criminals. The criminals had demanded Tk 50,000 from his family, reports said. In Kurigram, at least two members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police and one of their informers were arrested in connection with the abduction of an NGO employee identified as Maidul Islam, who was rescued by law enforcers.On April 27, Milestone College student Rajeeb was freed in Tangail after his father paid kidnappers Tk 24 lakh as ransom money. Meanwhile, RAB arrested nine members of the gang, including a cousin of the victim. A lump sum amount of money was also recovered from the group. Zakir Hossain, a madrasha student who was abducted from the city’s Gulistan area on April 25, was rescued from Rupganj upazila, Narayanganj on April 30. Two persons were arrested in this connection.In the city’s Uttara, businessman Shamsul Islam alias Solaiman, 40, was allegedly kidnapped on April 25 by people introducing themselves as law enforcers, his wife Salma Islam said. Later his body was found. He was doing garments business and involved in BNP politics.
