In two separate incidents in Hajiganj Upazila, two people lost their lives and six others sustained injuries.
The deceased were identified as Mohammad Ali, 70, hailed from Moiddhya Borkul village and Billal Hossain,45, son of late Abdul Gahfur hailed from Ghasipour village – both under same Hajiganj Upazila.
According to Police, while returning home at Borkul from Rajargaon village under Hajiganj Upazila, elderly man Mohammad Ali and his six family members were injured when their auto rickshaw carrying them suddenly turned turtle at Bakila Bazar area on Chandpur-Cumilla Regional Highway at dusk on Saturday. Seriously injured Mohammad and six others were rushed to Hajiganj Health Complex.
Later, Mohammad Ali was removed to Cumilla Medical College Hospital from Hajiganj. As his conditioned critical there , he was referred to DMCH but he died on the way at night.
In another incident , day labourer Billal Hossain died from electrocution at Shendra village under the same Hajiganj Upazila at around 5 pm on Saturday.
While cutting branches of trees, Billal suddenly contacted a live electric wire of Polli Biddut and at once, he fell down from tree. Locals rushed Billal to Hajiganj Health Complex where the on duty doctor declared him dead.
Contacted, Hajiganj Thana Sub Inspector Md Mynuddin confirmed the news adding that he had gone to the spot soon after the incident and enquired into the matter.
