Two members of a UK expatriate family died in a hospital in Sylhet after five members of the family were found unconscious at a rented house in Osmaninagar upazila of the district on Tuesday morning. The deceased were identified as
Rafiqul Islam, 50, and his 16-year-old son Mahikul Islam.
The condition of the remaining three injured is critical. They are Rafiqul Islam’s wife Hosne Ara Begum, 45, his son Sadiqul Islam, 25, and daughter Samira Islam, 20. They are undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital (SOMCH).
Police said that suffocation or food poisoning would be the reasons behind the death of two expatriates and sickness of three others in Osmaninagar upazila in Sylhet.
Sources said, on information, police recued five people from a room on the Mangalchandi Road in Tazpur Bazar of the upazila around 11:00am on Tuesday (July 26). Later, among them, father Rafikul Islam, 50, and his son Maikul Islam, 18, died after being taken to the hospital.
Sylhet Police Chief Mohammad Farid Uddin said, on July 18, they returned to Bangladesh and rented a house in Osmani Nagar.
Quoting family members, the police Chief said, the victims went to bed after taking dinner on Monday night. Then, after receiving a call on the hotline 999 police rescued the five unconscious people around 10:30am on Tuesday.
