A two-day workshop on manuscripts began on Monday at the Cyber Centre of Dhaka University (DU) Library.Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the workshop, organized by the Central Library of DU, as the chief guest.Renowned Educationist and manuscripts researcher Prof Dr Abdul Quayum presided over the function while Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed addressed as special guest.Acting Librarian of DU Library Prof Dr S M Zabed Ahmed delivered the welcome speech and Acting Librarian (Planning and Development) Syeda Farida Parvin gave the vote of thanks. Assistant Professor of the Department of Botany of Syed Nazrul Islam College, Mymensingh handed over four rare manuscripts, which had been collected by his father, to DU Library.Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Arefin Siddique in his speech said the total number of manuscripts preserved at DU Library is over 30 thousand. He urged the teachers, researchers and students to translate those manuscripts and reach those to common people effectively.The VC further said manuscripts have been playing a pioneering role in the civilized society and human development. He hoped that manuscripts preserved at DU would unveil new fields of research and knowledge.He deeply thanked Asif Minhaz Setu and his family for presenting the rare manuscripts to DU Library. The VC also inaugurated e-resources remote access system of the DU Library. A total of 40 students of six departments of DU are participating in the workshop.
