A two-day National Mathematics Conference began yesterday (Friday) at A F Mujibur Rahman Bhaban of Dhaka University (DU). DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the conference as the chief guest.
A F Mujibur Rahman Foundation and Bangladesh Mathematical Society jointly organized the conference with a theme of “Research and Development in Mathematics for Real Life Application,” said a DU press release. President of Bangladesh Mathematical Society Prof Md Mubarak Hossain presided over the inaugural function while Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Mohammed Abdul Aziz and Trustee of A F Mujibur Rahman Foundation Khushi Kabir addressed it as the special guests.
Akhtaruzzaman urged the professionals, academicians and researchers to present mathematics to the students in easy ways so that they can understand it properly.
He said mathematical knowledge is one of the foundational skills to analyze and apply the concepts and theories of other academic fields including economics, business, science and engineering. The Vice-Chancellor hoped the conference would create a common platform for mathematicians in the country.
Some 200 academicians and researchers are participating in the conference.
