A court here on Thursday sentenced two policemen to 10 years imprisonment in a case over the murder of BCL leader Shipul in Tahirpur upazila in the district.
The convicts are Sharif Uddin, suspended Officer-in-Charge and Rafikul Islam, suspended Sub-Inspector of Tahirpur Police Station.
Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Pranab Kumar Das pronounced the verdict.
The court also acquitted five others, including Tahirpur Upazila Chairman and organising secretary of district unit BNP Kamruzzaman Kamrul.
According to the case statement, Wahiduzzaman Shipul, president of Tahirpur Zainul Abedin University Chhatra League unit, was shot dead in his house on March 20 of 2002.
Later the victim’s mother filed a case accusing seven people in this connection.
