Local sources said driver Abu Jafor came to Sitakunda from Gazipur with the money to buy a pickup van on December 20 morning. However, he could not buy the pickup van and was waiting at Shyamoly Bus Counter of Sitakunda Sadar in the evening. Three police informants appeared before him and threatened to brand him as a “yaba peddler”.
The informants, later, called SI Saiful and constable Saiful. The two policemen rushed to the spot and introduced themselves as “DB police” and picked up the driver saying he was carrying yaba, according to sources.
The policemen even did an X-ray of Jafor but found nothing. Later, they took away the Tk 2.80 lakh from the driver and put him in a Dhaka-bound bus, threatening him not to disclose the matter to anyone.
Additional SP Ashraful Karim said they were trying to arrest the three other accused involved in the incident.
