Three people, including two policemen, were arrested in Masjid Road area of the district town early Tuesday over the kidnapping of a trader.
The arrestees are assistant sub-inspector Md Rafiqul Islam, constable Md Shariful Islam and Akhi Akter. Victim Jakir Hossain, a fertiliser trader from Dewra village in Sarail upazila, filed a case against the three on Tuesday after he was rescued during the drive.
In the case, he alleged that he was going to Jagat Bazar on Monday when Akhi requested him to take her to her house in Kazipara area on the pretext of illness.
When Jakir took her to her house, Rafiqul and Shariful who were staying there beforehand tied his eyes and snatched Tk 12,000 from him.
Later, the kidnappers demanded Tk 3 lakh as ransom from Jakir’s family. Being informed by his family members, a team of Sadar Police Station arrested Akhi in the early hours of Tuesday.
Later, they arrested the two policemen as per information given by her. A court sent the arrestees to jail after they were produced before.
