A schoolgirl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at Rasul Bag village under Satkhania upazila of the district on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Nishad Mojumdar, 17, daughter of Abul Basar, hailed from the village and also a class nine student of local high school.
Quoting the victim’s relatives, Alauddin Talukder, Assistant Sub-Inspector (SI) of Chittagong Medical College Police outpost, said the girl might have committed suicide by hanging herself after her parents rebuked her for not attentive with his studies.
She was rushed to the Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) where attending doctors declared her dead. The body was sent to the morgue for autopsy, the SI added.
Another report adds: A student of Chittagong Medical College allegedly killed herself by hanging in her house in Boalkhaili upazila of Chittagong on Tuesday night.
Shirin Akter Rekha, a third-year student, went to her village home during the puja vacation and allegedly hanged herself when her mother and brother went out of home, said Boalkhali police.
On information, police sent the body to the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
