Gas inhalation: 2 cleaners die toxic in city manhole

Six days after Zihad tragedy, two temporary cleaners of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), met the tragic death in the city’s Manik Nagar under Mugda Police Station on Friday afternoon. Another cleaner who was with them received severe shock from the poisonus gas inside.
The deceased have been identified as Dila, 55, and Nuru Mia, 60, residents of Manik Nagar WASA Road area. On the other hand, the injured is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College and
Hospital (DMCH), police said. Quoting the witnesses, Mugda Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Omar Faruk said that the victims became unconscious at the time of cleaning a manhole adjacent to Manik Nagar Model School and College around 3:15pm. Locals recovered the victims in a critical condition and sent them to the DMCH where the on-duty doctors declared them dead around 4:00pm.
The reasons of death was poisonous gas inside the manhole. Police have started the investigation.
The body had been kept at the DMCH morgue for an autopsy, the OC said.
