2 Chinese nat’ls held with 5 kgs gold at HSIA

A preventive team of Dhaka Customs House detained two Chinese nationals and recovered with more than five kilograms of gold bars worth over Tk two crore at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Wednesday morning.
Dhaka Customs House Deputy Commissioner Othelo Chowdhury said the Chinese men landed at the airport by an Air Arabia flight from Sarjah around 11:30am.
On suspicion, the preventive team chased the foreigner, from boarding bridge No-9 of the airport.
When the team asked them if they were carrying any taxable goods, the Chinese nationals denied, the customs official said.
After scanning, the customs officials found the presence of metallic object inside their luggage.
They recovered two solar home systems from the luggage and found 48 gold bars worth over Tk two crore inside the batteries of the solar systems.
