Firefighters recovered the bodies of two infants from a water body in Bhasantek slum after a fire raged through the slum on Thursday.
The identities of the deceased could not be known yet, said Ershad Hossain, duty officer at Fire Service and Civil Defence control room.
The fire broke out at the slum around 1:30 am and spread around soon, he said.
On information, 21 firefighting units went to the spot and extinguished the blaze around 3 am.
Later in the day, divers of a firefighting unit recovered the two bodies from the water body, said Ershad.
Sabbir Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Bhasantek Police Station, said some one thousand shanties were gutted in the fire. However, the origin of the fire could not be known yet, the official said.
