Two children met their tragic end when they were drowned in pond in Telikhali area of village Gabbunia within Chila Union under Mongla Upazila in Bagerhat district on Friday, according to a report received here. The ill-fated children are Zim Shaikh (03), son of Delwar Shaikh, a day laborer of the Telikhali area and Bristi Aktar (04), daughter of Lovlu Shaikh, a garments worker of the same area. The deceased were uncle and nephew in relations.
It is learnt from the locals that on the day at noon they were playing in their house-premises. At that time the members of their families were busy in house hold works and at one stage the ill-fated children went to the bank of an adjacent pond, fell into it and were drowned without the knowledge of the family-members. After a long search the dead bodies of the children were recovered from the pond. They were rushed to Mongla Upazila Health Complex where the physician on duty declared them dead.
Md. Monirul Islam, Officer-in-charge of Mongla PS admitted the fact and told, in this connection 2 separate UD cases were lodged with the PS.
