Two children drowned in a pond at Fenchuganj in Sylhet on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Shakil Ahmad, 6, son of Islam Uddin of Konabari at Deenpur of Fenchuganj in the district, and his neighbour Sahara Begum, 5, daughter of Samir Molla, police said.
Locals said that the two children were playing on the bank of a pond at Shakil’s home at around 10:00am and they went missing after half an hour. As the guardians of the two started search, their bodies were found in the pond water, they said. Fenchuganj police officer-in-charge Mohammad Badruzzaman told that the victims were taken to Fenchuganj upazila health complex.
after being rescued from the pond, but the doctor on-duty declared them dead on arrival.
‘The bodies were handed over to their relatives without performing postmortem examination,’ the police officer said.
