A district court has sentenced life term imprisonment to two brothers for killing their uncle Rafiz Mia in Sunamganj.
Sunamganj additional district and sessions judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun passed the order on Wednesday.
The convicts are- Kanan Mia and Abdul Aziz, sons of one Mizan Ali of Jahirpur village in Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj.
The court also acquitted two other accused in the case as charges against them were not proven.
According to case statements, convict Abdul Aziz was engaged in an altercation with victim Rafiz Mia’s son Lilu Mia on May 18 in 2000. At one point, Abdul Aziz along with his brother Kanan beat up Lilu Mia. They also hit Rafiz Mia with a stick as he tried to stop the brawl. Rafiz was critically injured and admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital. He died five days later while undergoing treatment.
Later Lilu filed a murder case with Chhatak police station accusing six people. After investigation, police filed charge-sheet against four people.
