Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members have arrested two persons from the city’s Mohammadpur, and Tongi areas for creating fake websites of media outlets and spreading false news about the government. They have been charged of creating fake copies of Bangla Tribune, Prothom Alo, and other renowned news websites.
The arrested men are Kamal Hossain alias GM Kamal, 23, and Md Alamin, 30, from Mohammadpur and Tongi areas respectively on Wednesday.
RAB-2 Commanding Officer (CO) Anwar Uz Zaman said, “They created fake websites in the name of Bangla Tribune, Prothom Alo, Daily Nayadiganta, Rokomari News, and some other major newspapers and news portals.”
He said, Alamin sold the www.prothomaalo.347.com domain to Kamal. The elite force also recovered a laptop and a mobile phone set from their possessions during the drive, according to him.
