UNB, Chittagong :
A Chittagong court on Sunday sent two accused to jail in connection with a railway graft case. The accused are Abul Kashem and Anisur Rahman. They were recruited against the posts of Railway fuel checker through irregularities.
Metropolitan Sessions’ Judge SM Mujibur Rahman passed the order when the accused surrendered before his court. Court sources said the Anti Corruption Commission assistant director SM Rashedur Reza filed the case with Kotwali Police Station on September 13, 2012 against five people, including suspended railway (East Zone) general manager Yusuf Ali Mridha, for appointing unqualified persons by manipulating recruitment test results. The other accused are Railway additional chief engineer (Mechanical) Hafizur Rahman, senior social welfare officer (suspended) Golam Kibria, Anisur Rahman and Abul Kashem.
The three other accused are still on large.
On April 9, 2012, Border Guard Bangladesh detained former Railways Minister Suranjut Sengupta’s assistant personal secretary and Mridha along with Tk 70 lakh stashed in a car. It was believed that the money was collected from job aspirants to railway as bribe.
