A court of Dhaka yesterday (Thursday) placed two suspected rapists on a 10-day remand each in a case filed on the charge of gang-raping a 21-year-old Garo woman on May 21.
Magistrate Amit Kumar Dey of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order on Thursday
afternoon after hearing. Earlier, Sajjad Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (Inquiry) of Bhatara Police Station produced accused Ashraf Khan alias Tushar, 35, and driver Jahidul Islam Lavlu, 26, to the court with a 10-day remand prayer for each of them.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Tushar on Tuesday from Kuakata in Patuakhali district and Lavlu from Gulshan in the city. Both of them reportedly admitted during primary interrogation that they had committed the crime. The woman was raped in a microbus in the capital. The accused allegedly lured her into a trap with an offer of a better job, claimed the RAB.
A case was filed with Bhatara Police Station on Friday, when the victim noted that five people had “gang-raped” her for over an hour that night.
