On the occasion of the month of Ramadan, the government has taken initiatives to provide products to middle and low income people at subsidized prices. One crore families across the country will be able to buy goods from Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) trucks through ‘Family Card’. 2 lakh 65 thousand in Chittagong metropolitan city corporation area and 1 lakh 12 thousand 272 families in Chittagong district area will be the beneficiaries of the card.TCB’s information officer Humayun Kabir of Chattogram chapter confirmed the matter.
It is learned that the government will provide six essential commodities including rice, pulses, oil, salt, flour and sugar to one crore extremely poor families across the country at affordable prices (subsidy). These families will get this product four times a year.
The assistance will be provided in the first and last half of April and in two more phases in July. TCB will implement this food assistance program under the direct supervision of the Prime Minister’s Office. This will be in addition to the existing food aid programs.
