About 2.5 percent people of our country suffer from different categories of kidney diseases, experts said.
The treatment facilities including kidney transplantation are very limited. In addition, the number of doctors for rendering appropriate treatment is also inadequate comparing with the number of patients..
Besides, the cost of kidney treatment is towering, beyond the reach of the overwhelming majority. About 12 to 22 percent people sell their properties for bearing the treatment.
In these circumstances, experts said, prevention and quick medical treatment are the only way to be safe from the hazardous.
The experts were speaking at the Second International Nephrology Conference at the Gonoshasthaya Nogor Hospital, Dhanmondi in the capital on Friday.
The experts said only one percent of the people suffered from the diseases during the ninetieth, nowadays spreading rapidly among the people of the country.
The international conference organized by Gonoshasthaya Kendra, Bangladesh Renal Association and ISN, started virtually on November 20, and ended on Friday.
Professor Dr. Harun Ur Rashid, founding Chairman of Kidney Hospital and Kidney Foundation and Chief of Consultants delivered speech as the Chief Guest, in the programme.
The function was also addressed by prominent pediatric Nephrology Professor Dr. Mohammad Hanif, Bangladesh Renal Association and Association of Bangladesh Physicians President Professor Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam, Organising Committee Chairman Professor Brigadier General (rtd) Mamun Mostafee, Scientific Committee Chairman Professor Md. Mahbubur Rahman and Dr. Muhib Ullah Khandakar, Acting Principal of Samaj Vittik Medical College.
. Besides, the experts said, most of the nephrology doctors of the country are practising in the capital. As a result, the patients living outside the capital fail to get necessary medical treatment in the beginning of the infections. But it is highly important to take medical treatment on emergency basis at the beginning of the diseases for healing.
They said that there are approximately 15 lakh kidney patients among the children in the country. But there are no sufficient numbers of doctors in the country, they said.
