The first Namaz-e-Janaza of Hossain Toufique (HT) Imam, political advisor to the Prime Minister, has been completed at Ullapara in Sirajganj.
The Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Ullapara Government Akbar Ali College ground around 12:00 pm on Thursday.
Earlier, local MP, Ullapara Awami League, Juba League, Chhatra League, Swechchhasebak League and people from all walks of life paid homage to him.
The Namaz-e-Janaza was attended by HT Imam’s son MP Tanvir Imam, Sirajganj-5 MP Abdul Momin Mandal, former minister Abdul Latif Biswas, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Faruk Ahmed, Sirajganj District Awami League acting president Advocate KM Hossain Ali Hasan, Awami League leaders-activists and others.
After the Janaza at Ullapara, his body will be taken to Dhaka by helicopter at around 12:30 pm. Earlier, his body was brought by helicopter to his own village Sontala High School ground in Ullapara at 10:30 am.
HT Imam, a member of the Awami League Advisory Council, has been serving as an advisor to the Prime Minister since 2009. He was the Public Administration Adviser in 2009 and the Political Advisor to the Prime Minister since 2014. He served twice as the co-chairman of the Awami League’s Electoral Steering Committee and also the chairman of the Publicity and Publication Sub-Committee.
HT Imam’s personal assistant Md. Ariful Islam Ujjwal said his body would be taken to the Central Shaheed Minar by helicopter again after the first Namaz-e-Janaza at Ullapara Government Akbar Ali College ground. The body will be kept there from 12:00 pm to 3:30 pm. From there, his body will be taken to Azad Mosque for the second Namaz-e-Janaza after Asr prayer. Later, he will be laid to rest at Banani Cemetery.
HT Imam had been suffering from kidney complications for a long time. He was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka two weeks ago. He breathed his last at 1:15 am on Wednesday while undergoing treatment.
