In the first six months of this year about 1983 road accidents have claimed 2297 lives and left 5480 persons injured across the country. There are 292 women and 315 children among the victims of the road accidents which took place in different highways and roads, reveals a survey.
The National Committee for Protection of Roads, Railway and Waterways released the survey report in the city on Saturday.
The report was prepared by analysing 22 national dailies, 10 regional dailies and 8 online news portals of the country during the period stretching from January 1 to June 30, 2017.
It said as many as 333 persons, including 34 women and 42 children, were killed and 632 injured in 265 accidents in June.
From June 23 after the vacation of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr to June 30, about 73 accidents caused deaths of 120 persons, among which there were 11 women and 15 children, and injury to 226 persons.
Nevertheless, the survey report observed, effective transport management, better weather caused less causality by road accidents this year.
The report, however, pointed out that the number of road mishaps and causality increased in contrast of the previous year.
In the year 2016 from January to June about 1941 persons, including 262 women and 261 children, were killed and 4794 injured in 1826 road accidents.
While in 2017 in the same time period 1983 road accidents have taken lives of 2297 persons, among which 292 were women and 315 children, while 5480 persons were left injured.
According to this statistics, the rate of accidents and deaths increased by 8.6 per cent and 18.35 per cent respectively.
The report also revealed that in January 2017 some 350 road accidents claimed 416 lives, including 54 women and 55 children, and left 1012 persons injured.
During February 2017, 427 persons, including 56 were women and 54 children, were killed and 1094 persons injured in 372 road accidents.
In March road accidents claimed 362 lives, including 49 women and 54 children, and injured 865 persons.
About 320 road accidents in April killed 349 persons, including 47 women, and 48 children and injured 861 persons.
During May 2017, 346 road accidents killed 410 persons, including 52 women and 58 children, and injured 1016.
According to the report, in January 2016 some 295 road accidents killed 340 persons, including 57 women and 42 children, and injured 942.
During February 2016, about 349 road accidents killed 356 persons including 53 women and 49 children and injured 1094 persons.
In March, 296 road accidents killed 309 persons, including 51 women and 41 children, and injured 626 persons.
296 road accidents in April killed 309 persons, including 38 women and 52 children, and injured 705 persons.
In May, 315 road accidents killed 292 persons, including 35 women and 33 children, and injured 582 persons.
275 road accidents in June 2016 killed 335 persons, including 28 women and 44 children, and injured 819 persons.
